Krause Ehlers

Principal Engineer, Pyrometallurgy Division, Mintek


Krause started his career in metallurgy as a physical metallurgical technician in 1974 at Corner House Engineering Laboratories, and worked for 2 years at Valindaba doing non-destructive testing contract work. In 1976, he joined Mintek and, during training, worked in the Projects division doing laboratory and pilot plant work in both hydro and pyrometallurgy. After obtaining his National Diploma in Extraction Metallurgy from Wits Technicon, he joined Johannesburg Consolidated Investment (JCI) at the Minerals Processing Research Laboratories (MPRL) in 1980. As a result of JCI unbundling, MPRL changed to Amplats Research Centre where Krause worked until joining Mintek in January 1998. Krause has many years experience in pyrometallurgical research and was involved in the following projects:
His publications to date, for which he has been investigator and author, include 22 internal pyrometallurgical reports, 3 contract reports and the Foxsmelt patent as co-inventor.
